We bundled everyone up in multiple layers, strapped the baby in her backpack and took a walk.
The local botanical gardens run their Garden Festival of Lights through the second week of January. Makes it nice for those of us who just can't seem to pull it together enough to get out there before Christmas. And also for those of us who tend to get real twitchy in crowds!
One of the local model train clubs always sets up an amazing display. Jacob remembers from year to year. He enjoys the lights--this year they had spiders five feet across--but it's the trains that capture his attention and his delight.

What a wonderful thing to do. Happy New Year.
My SS would love that train! And what a good idea to have lights in January when all the other festivities have faded away.
Happy New Year
This would DEFINITELY be right up Dylan's alley, too! When our kids were little, an aunt of my hubby's - my beloved Aunt Gin - used to have them come spend the night right around Christmas. Each year there'd be a HUGE Christmas Tree display inside at the Memorial Coliseum and Aunt Gin would take them there, then stop off at Lloyd Center Mall at a toy store there and let them each pick out a toy of their choice. She's been gone many years now, but our kids STILL remember what a special time in their lives that was!
Do you remember Coleman's Nursery in Norfolk? I use to love to go there every year, especially after Cody was born. Then it burned down and then they rebuilt and closed it down. I love doing stuff like that. I heard the Opryland Hotel has an amazing lights display. We didn't get down there this year, but hopefully next year.
Glad you guys had a great time.
Trains were the best toy I ever got as a kid. I still love trains and sometimes just walk along the tracks behind my place.
