Jacob wants to plant a garden this year. The idea came to him after our attempt to save pumpkin seeds from last year's Jack-o-Lanterns. That didn't work out so well--apparently the seeds need to be completely and totally dried out prior to sealing them up in a ziploc bag for safe keeping. The mass of moldy seeds didn't make it past Thanksgiving but the idea stuck. So Monday morning Jacob and I went down to one of the local garden stores. We picked up a mini green house type thing to start the seeds in and Jacob picked out a variety of seeds.
This is the day we planted them. Exciting, isn't it?
A "Sprout Watch" has been incorporated into Jacob's morning routine--just before sitting down with his sippy cup of warm chocolate milk. His patience was rewarded this morning--wee tiny little beet sprouts and sunflower sprouts have made their appearance. The mixed peppers and heirloom tomatoes have yet to burst forth in sprouts. Hopefully by the time they're all ready to go outside we would have figured out where in the backyard to plant them. I'm leaning towards the idea of a modified container garden...

Kailea and I did this last year with flowers. We started out with nine of the seeds making it and by the end we were left with one flower. Then the dog chewed that one up and Kailea was crushed. I love planting gardens with the kids. Even the older ones like to watch everything grow :)
Ooooohh!!!!! That is so cool. Can't wait til my guy is old enough to do that kind of stuff. REALLY can't wait to get outside this year and work in the yard planting and such. Thanks for the hopeful post, when it seems that spring will surely never come :)
Love gardening. Hate wedding. Good luck!
Isn't it lovely when they become old enough to wonder about these things? Good luck with your crop!
