Take a ride on the Peace Train...beware...opinions ahead...

Yep...just another lame-o post with song lyrics. But this came on the radio as I was dropping off the kiddos at school this morning. And it really struck a chord. I've heard the song a gazillion times (love Cat Stevens) but I don't think I've ever just let the words sink in.

And then I got to thinking...where are the war and civil unrest protest songs of this generation? Are we so sensitive about "support our troops" that we forget to protest the war that's killing off an entire generation of sons and daughters, husbands and wives, moms and dads? There's an alarming lack of protestations. For what it's worth, here's my stand...we're in a war we cannot win. The administration that started it and the administration that inherited it were and are incapable of making the bad human decisions that would make it possible to win. That's an okay thing. Not accepting and admitting it--which would be conceding a draw and letting those sons and daughters, moms and dads, husbands and wives return and live out long, un-shattered lives--is not an okay thing. So here you go...let's get the peace train rolling...
Now I've been happy lately,
thinking about the good things to come
And I believe it could be,
something good has begun

Oh I've been smiling lately,
dreaming about the world as one
And I believe it could be,
some day it's going to come

Cause out on the edge of darkness,
there rides a peace train
Oh peace train take this country,
come take me home again

Now I've been smiling lately,
thinking about the good things to come
And I believe it could be,
something good has begun

Oh peace train sounding louder
Glide on the peace train
Come on now peace train
Yes, peace train holy roller

Everyone jump upon the peace train
Come on now peace train

Get your bags together,
go bring your good friends too
Cause it's getting nearer,
it soon will be with you

Now come and join the living,
it's not so far from you
And it's getting nearer,
soon it will all be true

Now I've been crying lately,
thinking about the world as it is
Why must we go on hating,
why can't we live in bliss

Cause out on the edge of darkness,
there rides a peace train
Oh peace train take this country,
come take me home again

Dori, it is my firm belief that we no longer protest because we've been conditioned to hate each other, rather than the powers that be.

We are so busy screaming "Republicans versus Democrats" that we can't join together to tell our government ENOUGH IS ENOUGH. Which, just happens to be EXACTLY what our government was hoping for when they started pushing the partisan bullsh*t. We've fallen for it hook line and sinker.

If one party is in office, 50% is grumbling about everything they do and the other 50% feels they must defend everything done.

For a bunch of greedy idiots, the "gubmint" is much smarter than we give them credit for.

Just for the record Erin, if you're a writer we demand more words than "woot".

LOL... I'm totally snickering my butt off. :)

Back off the fierce one. A truly gifted writer knows how to pack a LOT into one single word. The rest of us take four pages. :)

And aren't you supposed to be all stressed out about a wedding?! Or is this your stress break?

LOL... well said my friend. Which explains why I'm so verbose.

Wedding was this past weekend and it was amazing. Wait, Erin give me a word for super-duper amazing. :)

It really did rock.

Now I'm just stressing because we have a houseguest (Husband's brother) for a week. And I'm socially inept and can be counted on to say or do something stupid.

And you can delete all this crap since I'm no writer! Meaning - SHUT UP ALREADY!

Oh, there's songs alright that protest. It'd be hard not to listen to Green Day's American Idiot album and not know that.

A lot of the protest songs are just more in a whiny "America is stupid" kind of way.

And while my brother was interning for the Heritage Foundation in DC, there were PLENTY of protests, marches and "tea parties" that people put on; it's just that celebrity drama tends to sale more ratings on TV and in magazines.

I guess I think it's time for people in our generation to start running for office. We're gonna have to break some eggs to make an omelet.

I'm looking for some hot sauce;)
