In an instant...

Life can change. Just like that.

A dear friend of mine lost her dad last night. In an instant her Thanksgiving day turned from joyful to mourning. She is also surrounded by family and loved ones and I know she will make it through this day.

Myself? Today--and all days--I'm so grateful. Grateful for my family. The little ones who barely allowed me to make pancakes this morning. The same little ones who slept in. The husband whom I love with all of my heart and soul and who is also not working today. My own dad who took over the kitchen yesterday and created a pecan caramel cheesecake. My sister who is creating a feast for us all to share and enjoy.

So much to be thankful for. So much.

Beautiful.. Live for the moment and thankfulness is my mission at the moment. Life is too short. So glad you have all your family there, and especially a dad who can make such wonderful deserts!

Belated Happy Thanksgiving :)

Suburbia...thanks on your end for kicking out the Puritans all those years ago :D And, yes, the cheesecake was (and is) delightful!

CW...I generally don't enjoy being told what to do and I always feel that's what Thanksgiving does--it tells me to be thankful. So normally I leave the day alone and express my gratitude on any other random day. But sitting there that morning and thinking about my friend and all she was going through I couldn't help but be grateful for what I have and still have. By next Thanksgiving I'll be back to my typical "you can't tell me what to do" attitude. Or not. :D

I came to visit and reread this...it brought to mind this thought. I lost both my parents after lengthy illnesses. Whether you lose them like your friend lost her dad or you lose them like I did, no matter how prepared you THINK you are...you're NOT. It's still a tremendous shock and totally rocks the foundation of your world. My heart goes out to your friend, Dori.
